Lisa García Bedolla Chair-CLPR and Associate Professor of Education
Professor García Bedolla is very happy to be back at Cal and to be leading the Center at such a critical time. She received her Ph.D. in Political Science from Yale University in 1999 and her B.A. in Latin American Studies and Comparative Literature from Berkeley in 1992. She has been a member of the Berkeley faculty since 2008. She is author of Fluid Borders (University of California Press, 2005) which won two national book awards, of Latino Politics (Polity 2009) and of the forthcoming (with Melissa R. Michelson) Mobilizing Inclusion (Yale University Press). Her research focuses on the political incorporation of Latinos and other racial/ethnic groups in the United States, with a particular emphasis on the intersection of race, class and gender.
Rosaisela Rodríguez, Research Specialist
Dr. Rodríguez is responsible for developing the Center’s research program. She received her Ph.D in Education from Berkeley in 1999 and has taught at the University of El Paso, Texas. Finding ways to make educational opportunities more attainable for students from underserved communities has been important to her throughout her academic career and has guided her professional trajectory. For the past six years she has worked at UC Berkeley as the Academic Coordinator for the JDP/LEEP Ed.D. programs in the Graduate School of Education.
Rebecca Alexander, Director, Public Programming
Rebecca Alexander is a PhD Candidate in Social and Cultural Studies in Education. Her dissertation research focuses on how young people make sense out of racial inequality as they transition from racially isolated to diverse high schools. Tracking youth from opposite sides of a school and neighborhood border, she examines how racial meaning is constructed in the diverse but bifurcated global suburbs, in a “colorblind” age. At the CCSRWM she serves as the Resource Database Project Director and research assistant to the Center’s Executive Director, Lawrence Rosenthal.
